Tours/programs/activities for families:
We offer Sanctuary Tours where you can enjoy a guided tour of our beautiful site, learning all about our habitat projects such as our Pig Woodland, Home for Rescued Hens and Goat Village, and meet the animals who call Goodheart home. We also run pig experiences, giving you the opportunity to spend time with these intelligent and social animals. In the winter, these take place in our Pig Barn, while in the summer, our ‘pig’nics’ allow you to enjoy time outdoors with the pigs before having lunch beside their paddocks. We also run annual Open Days where we invite visitors to explore the sanctuary, enjoy vegan food, browse stalls, listen to educational talks, and take part in activities for all ages. It’s a chance to meet the animals, learn more about our work, and see first-hand what sanctuary life is all about.
Reason for offering tours/programs/activities:
Our Sanctuary Tours and Animal Experiences demonstrate how farm animals should live—free to roam, socialise, and express their natural behaviours in a safe and spacious environment. These are the very things denied to them in factory farms. Spending time with our residents also helps people see them as individuals - each one intelligent, curious, and full of personality, just like the pets we share our homes with. By forming these close connections, many visitors begin to see farmed animals in a new light, often leading to more thoughtful and compassionate choices in their daily lives. Our School Trips and Work Experience placements give young people the chance to learn about animals in a meaningful way, helping to foster empathy, kindness, and respect. By spending time at the sanctuary, they see first-hand how animals think, feel, and form bonds, challenging common misconceptions.
Typical visit duration:
1-2 hours
Sanctuary's mission:
Provide a safe and loving forever home for animals in need, with a special focus on farmed animals who are so often overlooked. At our sanctuary in the West Midlands, they can live in peace, free to express their natural behaviours. Our work goes beyond rescue - we want to help people see animals as the sentient beings they are, capable of feeling joy, fear, and pain, just like us. By sharing their stories, we hope to inspire more compassionate choices and a kinder world for all animals.
Recommended activity:
A Sanctuary Tour is a great way to learn more about our work, our mission, and the many animals who call our sanctuary home. It’s an opportunity to see first-hand how they live and thrive in a safe and caring environment. Our Open Days are also a fantastic experience, especially for children, with a variety of activities on offer, from scavenger hunts and workshops to animal meet-and-greets and more.
Preparation for visiting:
Before visiting, we recommend parents and children take a little time to learn about the animals they’ll be meeting and the work we do as a sanctuary, via our website: www.goodheartanimalsanctuaries.com. Practical preparations include checking the weather forecast and dressing appropriately—our sanctuary is mostly outdoors, so sturdy footwear and waterproofs or sun protection (depending on the season) are a good idea. Bringing a reusable water bottle and snacks is also recommended, though we encourage plant-based options in line with our values. Most importantly, we ask visitors to come with an open mind and a gentle approach, ready to meet our animals with kindness and respect.
Best time to visit:
Our sanctuary is a special place to visit all year round, with something unique to offer in every season. The best time to visit depends on what you’d like to experience! Spring and summer are great for seeing the sanctuary at its liveliest, with longer days, plenty of sunshine, and lots of animals enjoying the outdoors. This is also when we run our ‘pig’nics’ and other special events. Autumn offers beautiful scenery and a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere, while winter visits provide a cosy experience, especially with our Pig Barn experiences, where you can spend time with the pigs in their warm indoor space. No matter the weather or time of year, we make every visit special, ensuring guests have a meaningful experience with our animals and learn about the work we do.
